Dear Caleb
So you celebrated your first birthday. Hooray, now stop drooling, grow up, and get a job, cause we are still paying on your hospital bill. Just kidding.
In a sense I cannot wait for you to be able to use the bathroom on your own and feed yourself, however I must have broke my Mom and Dad with my appetite when I was growing up. Christmas had to be scaled back due to larger portions of food. And it would be nice if you could clean your room and stop walking like a drunk man who just exited the tilt a whirl, but to be honest…I wouldn’t want to miss out on all that WE are learning together. The only things you seemed to have inherited from me are your toes and your temper, but that’s good cause your wouldn’t be cute as a button if you didn’t look like your Mommy. I’m looking forward to hearing your first word (or at least one that you know what you’re saying) and singing great kids songs, like “Little Bunny Foo Foo”, the “Spongebob” theme, and “A says A…”.
Love
Daddy
Dear Bean
Happy 1st birthday. I can’t believe you are here! Your father and I both really wanted a baby. You are one of the best babies I know. I have been truly blessed. You are happy, content, smiley, trusting, funny.
Your grandmother has suggested I switch your nickname to bean sprout, due to the fact you are now much bigger than a bean. In the middle of the night when you are being fussy I call you Mr. Sassy Pants.
I can’t believe we have had you for 1 year already. Although I can feel the lack of sleep that has persisted for a year. Good thing you are worth the sleepless nights.
Ok here is a little about you:
You have 12 teeth. You were very good about getting your teeth, you drooled and that was about it. You were a very early walker, you have been walking around since around May, but in June you really mastered the walk. Words you know: DaDa, MaMa, Hi, Monkey.
Let’s see I love the way you sleep with your butt in the air, it is the cutest thing ever! I always smile when I see you sleeping like that!
You mastered the wave last week, and we wave to everything and everyone. Sometimes you give them the 2 handed wave if they deserve it.
I love you. Please be aware as you read this years from now, I wouldn’t trade you for anything you are the best thing I ever made. You are truly loved, and I hope you always know this from the depths of your soul.
Love Momma

Hi Caleb,
I know you had a happy birthday, because I was there. ;-) Everybody had a happy Caleb 1st birthday.
It has taken me this long to respond, trying to think of something I could add to what your Mom and Dad have already written. Their words portray them exactly as they are and reveals the contents of their hearts and the great love they have for their Caleb.
If I were asked to rate your parents on a scale of 1 to 10, I would have to give them a ten and three quarters. Even allowing for the fact that I am just a wee bit biased in their favor, I am convinced that any impartial and fair minded person, could rate them no lower than ten and a half.
I said all that to say this, Caleb. You are a very fortunate little dude to have chosen the parents you have out of all the billions of options on this earth.
Hey! You made pretty good choices in aunts, uncles, cousins, grand parents and great grand parents too. ;-)
We are all nuts about you Caleb.Bless your heart.
Your proud ggpM
A little late on the birthday wishes (just saw cousin Blake's blog page), but just as heartfelt. Happy birthday, little one.
You may not know it, but you inherited more from your daddy than daddy knows. Daddy slept with his rear in the air, too. When I see you again, I can tell you other stories about your daddy's diaper days.
Another thing, have they told you what your great-great-great grandfather Damon's nickname was?
Beans! So little bean, you could one day grown into a long string bean like your g-g-grandfather. g-g-grandfather has always been my definition of unconditional love. If you wonder what that is like, look at your grandpa. He is a lot like him.
Happy second year ahead, sweet little boy.
